Art Works USA: Fine Art From the Heartland to the World and Beyond
Welcome to our world. This site is sometimes home to Billy X. Curmano, the eXperimental Art Research Terminal (XART) of Art Works USA and the New X Art Ensemble featuring the Amazing Tess Toster Tones.
Billy is an award winning artist known for eccentric performances. He represented the USA in the III Vienna Graphikbiennale, became the first person to swim the Mississippi River from its source to the gulf, was buried alive for 3 days in a performance for the dead and fasted for 40 days in Death Valley to greet the Millennium.
You can re-live these art adventure/travelogues via videos available from Art Works USA. Witness the burial and jazz funeral, a performance for cows, dancing flames, elegant land and riverscapes all with original musical scores. Recently, "Swimming the Mississippi" won the "Henry Hampton Award for Excellence in Film & Digital Media".
Besides video documentation, Billy often re-creates performance in performance. Live re-creations and workshops on performance for colleges and museums around the world. Alone or with the New X Art Ensemble, its always exciting when Billy gets to town. The "LA Weekly" (Los Angeles) selected him as "Performance Pick of the Week". Journalists have dubbed him the court jester of Southeastern Minnesota and compared him to the likes of P.T. Barnum, Andy Warhol and Marcel DuChamp.
Objects often remain as tracks of a performance. Drawings, paintings and plans, odd devices and other performance paraphernalia have been collected for touring exhibitions. Ring 507.864.2716 or contact billyx@acegroup.cc for details of live or virtual touring.
